The Shelby County Schools Library Curriculum was written by a committee of skilled and experienced SCS Library Information Specialists. The library curriculum is based on the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Standards aligned with the TN Academic Standards to provide library information specialists with a framework for their instruction throughout the year. Library Target Skills, Essential Questions, Learning Outcomes and Suggested Resources are provided to complete the framework of the library curriculum.
By aligning the AASL standards with the TN Academic Standards, library information specialists are able to teach library specific skills while maintaining the focus on literacy through writing, speaking and listening, reading and language.
The curriculum was updated May 2019.
NOTE:
The Library Curriculum is written for elementary and middle schools only. High school Library Information Specialists serve the changing needs of the subject area teachers and individual research needs of their students.
